Short introduction of Statistical Theory and Analysis on Natural Sciences Laboratory (STAANSL)

The Statistical Theory and Analysis on Natural Sciences Laboratory (STAANSL) at Khulna University is a research-oriented lab established under the Statistics Discipline. This lab is a dream initiative of Dr. Md. Menhazul Abedin, who is working as an Associate Professor at this university. This lab was established in November 2016 with the vision of advancing multidisciplinary research when Dr. Menhaz was newly appointed. In November 2025, the laboratory launched its website to enhance collaboration and communication among researchers in Bangladesh and abroad. Our research team is composed of highly qualified investigators, almosst all holding PhD degrees, alongside enthusiastic undergraduate and master’s students. The lab is also planning to open opportunities for PhD candidates in the near future.

The lab focuses on applying advanced statistical methods to understand and solve problems related to natural sciences, including chemistry, Chemical engineering, Chemoinformatics, Public health, Biomedical engineering, Bioinformatics, Biological science etc. Under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (Menhaz), and his colaborators the lab aims to bridge the gap between theoretical statistics and practical scientific applications.

The laboratory serves as a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration, where statistical models are developed and applied to analyze complex natural phenomena. It emphasizes both classical and modern approaches such as regression modeling, time series analysis, multivariate analysis, spatial statistics, and machine learning techniques to interpret real-world data effectively. The research activities in the lab are designed to enhance data-driven decision-making and to contribute to sustainable development through scientific understanding supported by robust statistical evidence.

Students and researchers working in the lab are trained in data collection, computational analysis, and statistical inference using software such as R, Python, and SPSS. The lab also promotes methodological research in statistical theory to improve analytical frameworks applicable to natural science data. 

Beyond research, the lab intended to organize seminars, workshops, and collaborative projects with other scientific disciplines and institutions. The ultimate goal of the Statistical Theory and Analysis on Natural Sciences Laboratory is to integrate statistical innovation with natural science research, producing meaningful insights that contribute to academic excellence and societal advancement. Through rigorous statistical exploration, the lab continues to expand its contribution to evidence-based scientific research within and beyond Khulna University.
